Notes from a Therapist: Your journey is yours. Let’s refocus on what matters.

Feeling behind? You’re not. Here’s how to shift your perspective.

Comparison is a thief - it steals confidence, joy and progress. But what if you could shift your mindset and focus on your path instead? In this edition of Notes from a Therapist, I’ll share strategies to escape the comparison trap and help you realign with what truly matters to you.

1. Remember: Social Media Isn’t Reality

It’s easy to feel behind when you’re comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel. But what you don’t see are their struggles, doubts and messy moments, just like yours.

Try this: Take a break from social media when you start feeling “less than.” Instead, spend time reflecting in a journal, focusing on your own progress rather than someone else’s.

2. Define Success on Your Own Terms

What does success actually look like for you? Dig deep and it might just surprise you what comes up. If you’re measuring your life against someone else’s goals, you’ll always feel like you’re falling short.

Ask yourself: What makes me feel fulfilled? What do I actually want? Writing it down helps solidify your personal goals and keep you focused on your journey.

3. Use Affirmations to Shift Negative Thinking

The moment you catch yourself thinking, I should be further ahead, replace it with:

I am exactly where I need to be.
My progress is my own, and that’s enough.
I am growing at the pace that’s right for me.

Reinforcing these beliefs with Mind Cards: The Affirmations can help rewire your mindset away from comparison and toward confidence.

4. Reflect on Your Own Growth

Instead of looking sideways at others, look backward at your own progress. Where were you a year ago? What have you learned? What have you overcome?

Keeping track of your wins - big or small - helps remind you of how far you’ve come.

The Bottom Line:

You’re not behind. You’re not late. You’re on your path. And that’s exactly where you’re supposed to be.

If you need help focusing on your journey, we are here to support you, every step of the way.
